Dr. Channa Hewamadduma graduated from University of Colombo with distinctions. He received the Commonwealth scholarship and continued his training in the UK. He was awarded a MRC Clinical training fellowship to complete a PhD in neurogenetics of ALS at the international centre for MND in Sheffield (SiTRAN). He completed neurology specialist training and obtained CCST in neurology.
He also undertook training fellowship in Newcastle highly specialized services for muscle diseases. Currently he is a neuromuscular specialist neurologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (STHFT) and is the co-chair of the South Yorkshire and Humber regional neuromuscular network. He also has a sub specialist interest in neurological Sleep Disorders. His research interests are MND, Neurogenetics, Hereditary spastic paraparesis, ataxia, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis and neuropathy. He is the audit lead to the department of neurology
